GwenRename in Gnome

I have had reports that Gnome users use GernRename, but find it difficult to execute due to the lack of a system/menu entry. This is why I have decided to look into it.

Note: The following info refers to Gnome v 2.24

I will not try to demonstrate the way you can run KDE applications under Gnome and the packages you have to install in order to do it; I will assume that this is already possible in your system. What I will show you is how to install a context menu entry in Nautilus.

It seems that the answer to the question is a package called nautilus-actions. Most distros already include it in their repositories; mine didn't, so I had to compile from source.

Setting up GwenRename with nautilus-actions

After you have installed the package, type nautilus-actions-config in a terminal window, or type Alt-F2 and type it there. The main windows will open

where you will have to click the "Add" button, to create the GwenRename entry.

Fill in the fields as shown in the following images, and then click "OK".

When you get back to the main window, click "Close", and you are done.

Finally, execute Nautilus and right-click on a file. Υou should something like this:

Note: You may have to logout and back in to see the effects.
